World Watercolor Month 2021

So, I am going to see how well I do on a painting every day in July. I figured the best way to do this is with a gallery once I have a second. So, here we go with World Watercolor Month for 2021.

Triangle Brushes and Sponges, Oh My!

So, today I played with a combo of the new triangle brushes and sea sponges for the foliage. I learned the sea sponge technique from a You Tube video and I think it has become my go to for most foliage. Smudge some, leave some and then maybe go back in after it dries for some detail if you wish.

I just got a new set of triangle watercolor brushes and had to test them out. I think I am in love with them. And got them for a super sweet deal to boot!

The Wanderer

I was at Fir Island one day and saw this heron wandering along the little stream near the entrance. He didn’t seem to have anything in particular on his mind like hunting. He was just wandering along looking around at the hills and plants on the banks. I took a bunch of pictures of him and he seemed to not care in the least that I was standing there taking pictures. Was nice to realize that the wildlife can just a appreciate the beauty around them as we can.

I’ve actually been working on this one for a bit. Think it is real close to done. Its done from a series of photos I took of him during one of my trips to Fir Island.

I’m kinda liking the way this one is starting to take form. I had to stop for the night so it can dry. We’ll see how it progresses in the next couple of passes at it.

Watercolor

Camano Country Club Art Show March 2021

My artwork will be at the Beach 1 Gallery at the Country Club on Camano Island for the month of March along with the art of a few other of my artist friends. I decided to only exhibit watercolors at this time. These are the paintings I have chosen so far to exhibit and sell at the gallery.

Skulls and Flowers

I think its about time for me to start keeping my art blog again. This year has been strange and it seems like everything has fallen off the face of the earth in one way or another. Time to start catching the falling debris. So today I had a friend over and we sketched together. I found a flower photo in my photo file and the skull is hanging on one of the walls in my studio. Its a combination of pencil, charcoal and a little bit of inktense pencil for the color. I think I like it. I have a couple of paintings in progress and will start posting on those as well. Its a start.

Reflection

A local photographer (Michael Hellen) posted a picture of a heron he took. I asked for permission to paint it and he gave it to me. The following is the progression of the painting as I work on it including Michael’s original photograph.

I was able to get a lot more work done on the painting. I need to wait for it to dry before I can go in and work on it some more, but I am thinking that it may just be a matter of some fine detail work. Maybe a bit of glazing in some areas as well.

This is the painting at this stage. I still have more work to do on it.
