I have no idea who this man is. I have been trying to work on my portrait skills by working through a book called “Lessons in Masterful Portrait Drawing”. Its not that I have suddenly developed a desire to be a portraitist. I really don’t want to specialize in such a thing. However, I do realize the usefulness of being able to accurately render a likeness. And I can see me using likenesses in some ways in my art. Plus, people are damned hard. If I can get them right, I am sure it will help me in other areas as well.
That said, here is my latest attempt. Reference picture is on the right. My sketch is on the left. I believe I am getting better. Still having some issues with proportions, but working on that.
